Coffee Bars
Ingredients
- 125 g butter or margarine
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
- ¾ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ cups self raising flour
Icing
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 tablespoon hot water
- 2 teaspoons instant coffee powder
- 1 teaspoon butter
Instructions
- Combine butter, sugar, coffee powder and milk in pan. Stir over heat until sugar is dissolved and butter melted. Bring to boil, remove from heat. Cool until warm. Stir in soda and lightly beaten egg, then sifted flour in two batches. Divide mixture between two well greased 25 x 8 cm bar tins. Bake in moderate oven for 30 minutes. Turn on rack to cool. When cake is cool ice and decorate with walnuts.
