Instructions
  1. Beat together 1 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons butter. Add 1 egg and ½ cup treacle, 1 tablespoon boiling water with ½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda dissolved in it. Sift in 2 cups plain flour, ½ teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt and 2 teaspoons ground ginger. Roll into small balls and bake in a slow oven.
